Are you a student (grade K-12) who loves art AND loves to read? Then the Glenview School of Arts is proud to present the Read It, Draw It Student Art Contest!

The rules for this contest are simple: create a piece of art that relates to a book you’ve read. It could be anything— a reimagining of an ending you didn’t quite like, a recreation of a favorite scene, a portrait of a character, a fantastical landscape— as long as its inspired by something you’ve read. All genres are welcome, so those of you who prefer comics or manga are welcome to use those as inspiration too :)

Submissions will be judged by three grade groups: K-5 (Elementary), 6-8 (Middle School), and 9-12 (Highschool). There will also be one Grand Prize winner from all age groups. Winners will receive Visa Gift Cards and their works will be displayed in the Glenview School of Arts for everyone to see!

If you’re a student who is interested in submitting, read below for all the details on rules, deadlines, and prizes! Read carefully— not meeting a submission requirement could mean your piece gets disqualified.

RULES:

  • Piece MUST be inspired by something you’ve read! We want to see original and creative ideas.
(No copying book covers, but they should be INSPIRED by them)

  • All 2D mediums are accepted— so that means colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, oil, acrylic, digital, etc. but NO SCULPTURE or 3D work.

  • Size cannot exceed 11x17 (digital works can be of any size)

  • NO excessive violence/gore allowed— i.e. drawing a swordfight is okay, but drawing a sword through someone’s stomach is not.

  • NO nudity (again, keep it PG!)

  • Please provide a statement about the piece you are submitting. It does NOT need to be an essay but should describe the book/ chapter/ scene the piece is about and how your piece ties into it.

  • Pieces MUST be submitted digitally through the link at the bottom of this page; pieces emailed, mailed, or dropped off will not be accepted. If you have a physical piece, that means taking a photo of it to submit— so make sure it’s a good quality, well-lit photo, or it could affect the judging!

  • All pieces must be submitted by August 19th 2024 at 11:59 PM. Late entries will NOT be accepted!
